Plenty of competition "Clues" at Hove
With the Coral Sussex Cup and the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency kicking off next Saturday at Hove, several big name Greyhounds have been, and will be put through their paces with trials before racing
Having made a winning comeback in his first start since February at Hove over 515m last week, the 2023 GBGB Greyhound of the Year and 2024 GBGB Stayer of the Year Droopys Clue (above)recorded a time of 41.77 over the Regency distance of 695m in a trial before racing at Hove last night. Last year's Sussex Cup Finalist looks set for a crack at the Regency this year and Seamus Cahill's star looks set to feature at the top of the betting if so.
King Memphis (above) is a Greyhound who is no stranger to big race success at Hove, having gone unbeaten when winning the 2023 Coral Olympic, and he too is on the comeback path again having missed the StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby due to injury. Despite stumbling at the traps, his time of 16.17 shows that he is on the pathway back to his best again for Liz McNair, going just over a length quicker than the Richard Rees trained Shadow Storm (below), who sparkled at Towcester in June, winning all three starts culminating in victory in the Time Greyhound Nutrition Sprint Trophy on Derby Final night, who recorded 16.27.
Another McNair runner, Brighton Belle finalist Queen Shakira recorded 16.35, the same time as Jason Heath's BetGoodwin & JR Racing Maiden Derby finalist Burrows Charm, while Esther Driver's StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby Semi Finalist No Better Feelin was put through his paces over 500m, recording 30.24
Saturday night's trial session is stacked with quality and plenty of competition clues could be taken from this session
Having already won the Time Greyhound Nutrition TV Trophy at Towcester and the Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket at Monmore, the Mark Wallis trained Mongys Wild (above) will be looking to make it a hat-trick of Category One competitions in the form of the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency, and having set new track records in both previous finals, you certainly wouldn't want to rule out a third! He lines up over 515m against kennelmate Vhagar (below) who is herself making a name for herself over six bends, winning all three starts at Towcester over 712m, including the final of the BetGoodwin Challenge Trophy on Derby FInal night, and also prior to that, winning at Oxford.
Talking of multiple Category One winners leads us onto Proper Heiress (below). Having won the Coral Olympic in at Hove in 2024, this year he has gone on to land the Ladbrokes Winter Derby Final at Monmore, the Arena Racing Company Kent Plate at Central Park as well as the Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship at Towcester, and although a second round casualty of the StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby, he will be looking to add another Category One title to his C.V. He lines up against Newinn Cloud, also over 515m
Garfiney Blaze has also tasted big race success at Hove, winning the George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Final over 740m in December and he will be put through his paces over 695m
Other runners of note having a spin round the Sussex track on Saturday are last week's Coral Coronation Cup Runner Up, Michelle Brown's Golden Palace, Patrick Godfrey's Time Greyhound Nutrition Three Steps To Victory runner up Arthur Job and StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby Quarter Finalist Tiffield Tarquin (below)
