Premier Greyhound Racing Classic Ante-Post View
The Premier Greyhound Racing Classic is normally a hotly contested Category One and the 2025 edition looks like continuing that trend.

Premier Greyhound Racing Classic
The 2025 edition of the Premier Greyhound Racing Classic gets underway on Friday evening at Sunderland. The entry of Romeo Steel for Patrick Janssens is an exciting one for the track, and hopefully, the long journey to the northeast is made worthwhile for the kennel.

An interesting opening heat with plenty of early boot from a few of these. Sunnyside Jayden finds this trip far enough for him but clocked a 27.04 off a 4.78 split over track and trip back in June. Although he is more of a two-bend performer, that instant acceleration can serve him well. Brindle Bully is not arriving in the same winning heart as when he made the final last year, but he has been keeping very strong company. Meenagh Minsk can come away so much better than her 5.11 sectional in a recent trial suggests but a better finish time was expected.

Romeo Steel is the red-hot favourite for outright glory, and following his wins in the East Anglian Derby and Steel City Cup, it's easy to have him as one of the quickest four-bend performers in the country when he gets it right. He is the 305m track record holder at Nottingham, and can maintain that level of speed through four bends. He won't have it easy on the run to the bend, however, as both Salacres Senan and Cunnigar King on either side of him can burn up the sand early.

Bouncing Monarch made the final of the Steel City Cup and while trouble behind extended his winning margin at this track last week, it was still and impressive clocking of 27.05 at the line. He faces a fascinating rival in Not So Slow who is better known as a sprinter but has some winning four-bend form and was a Gymcrack semi-finalist over 500m at Sheffield last year at the start of his career.

A lot of eyes will be on Droopys Sort here, making his UK debut. He stopped the clock at 28.07 at Cork back in July on just his third career start, and that remains the 12th quickest time of the year there. He has found time with each look here for Carl Jackson, who has given him plenty of practise ahead of this event. Slingshot Gazza will be looking to slip clear around the outside early on. Brian Fairbairn's lightly-raced type has produced some smart times and a couple of electric 4.48 splits at Newcastle.

Guys And Dolls winner Newinn Souly arrives without a look for heat five but he has been in flying form of late, so if he can find his way around at the first time of asking, he could be a player for overall glory at a price. He will take on Slingshot Poppy who is defending a perfect record in the UK when she was in the care of Pat Buckley. She landed the Category Two Arena Racing Company Puppy Trophy in June, and recent trials suggest that she's not lost a step.

Sunnyside Gurkha clocked a smart time when he beat Whitehills Titan and Deerjet Rocket in a Category Three final here at the end of August. On paper, this is the weakest of the heats, with nothing shorter than 66/1 in the ante-post market in here. Connections of them all will be eyeing this as a great opportunity to land a Category One semi-finalist.
Premier Greyhound Racing Classic ante-post selections
The ante-post market has it two against the field. Romeo Steel is the classiest runner in the field, there is little question but he does have a tricky-looking draw in the opening round. Slingshot Poppy was outstanding here in a puppy competition earlier in the year, and although she arrives off some very smart trials, she has not raced in more than three months.
Although Brindle Bully has not been in quite such winning form of late as he was when arriving for this competition last year, he made the final of the East Anglian Derby when six lengths behind Romeo Steel, losing a couple of lengths at the opening bend, and then made the final of the Guys And Dolls as well. A stiffer four bends will help these days compared to Romford and he is just one of four wides in the competition.
At an even bigger price, it is not a surprise to see some blue on Oddschecker about Whitehills Titan given that he has landed in the weakest of the six heats. He put in an uncharacteristically slow exit in his most recent start, finding first bend trouble as a result. Normally he is much slicker into stride and is a consistent type. Three runs sub 27 seconds here in eight starts over 450m is not to be sniffed at given his market odds.
Brindle Bully each way @ 28/1 (Ladbrokes/Coral)
Whitehills Titan each way @ 80/1 (Bresbet, 66/1 generally available)
