The BGBF British Breeders Stakes will get a boost with the entry of Romeo Tomcat who heads to Nottingham instead of a tilt at the Arc Kent Plate at Central Park.

It's Nottingham not Central Park for Romeo Tomcat

Leading British breeder Dave Firmager's recent domination of the BGBF British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham has been given a boost with leading Derby contender Romeo Tomcat re-routed to the Nottingham event, which starts with four heats over 500m on Monday.

Bred and owned by Firmager and trained by Parick Janssens, last year's PGR Kent Derby champion had been slated for a crack at the Arc Kent Plate back at Central Park - and a strong Janssens team heads to the Sittingbourne track tonight.

However, Romeo Tomcat joins the likes of Fabulous Heka, Romeo Empire and Romeo Ability as a strong Janssens/Firmager team for the £12,500-to-the-winner Category One, while the Melton Mowbray-based breeder is also represented by Kelly Hodson's Romeo Force in the line-up.

The Diane Henry-trained and Firmager-bred runner Romeo Control struck gold in the British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham last year and previous winners for Firmager include the Janssens-trained Romeo Command (2023) and John Mullins-trained Romeo Rumble (2019).

Janssens said: "Tomcat's main target is the Derby at Towcester and Nottingham just looks a better fit at this stage of his preparation. We've got a few heading to Central Park including a few younger members of the team, but Dave (Firmager) is always keen to support British-bred events and this is one of the biggest."
