Saturday Open Report – PGR Regency and Coral Sussex Cup 


Category One action took centre stage at Hove last night with the semi-finals of the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency and Coral Sussex Cup. Three heats of both competitions took place with the first two from each making it into next Saturdays finals which will be on Gone To The Dogs – Live!


Premier Greyhound Racing Regency – Hove


1st semi-final (6.59) – Garfiney Blaze (4/9f) led off the final bend to win by three lengths in 41.57. Race leader Droopys Invent finished second. 


2nd semi-final (7.16) – Art Riddler (11/1) led near the line to pick up Romeo Empire late on in 41.56. 


3rd semi-final (7.33) – Mongys Wild (2/5f) ultra-impressive run from the Mark Wallis-trained superstar who led at the fourth bend and powered clear in 41.12. Kennelmate Bombay Nutty finished second six and a half lengths behind the winner. 



Coral Sussex Cup – Hove 


1st semi-final (7.49) – Proper Heiress (8/15f) made all and ran out an impressive winner in 29.57. Chelms Bear (T3) stayed on in tacking fashion to grab second. 


2nd semi-final (8.07) – Quill Quids (5/1) well backed throughout the day, Quill Quids got up late on to deny Ower Mystery in 30.54.


3rd semi-final (8.24) – Queen Shakira (7/1) the Liz McNair-trained December 2021 daughter of Droopys Sydney made all and held off the late challenge of Slick Sentinel from T6 in a winning time of 30.23.


 

Elsewhere, on the Hove card, we saw wins for Kelvins Hat (29.47) in heat one of the Coral 500 Standard Trophy, while Hopes Kitty took heat two at 6.42, recording a quick away made all success in 29.27. 


The Coral Sussex Sprint open race at 8.41 went to Roanna Mamba, clocking 16.21 over the two-bend 285-metre trip at the Nevill Road venue. Queen Sinead took heat two at 8.59, making all in 16.44 with the third and final heat at 9.16 going to King Presley in 16.24.





Oxford – BetGoodwin Pall Mall final plus supporting opens

Elsewhere, on the card we saw wins for Milton Ariel (9/2) in the Maiden open at 7.31, clocking 27.35 after leading at the first bend. Division two of the Maiden at 9.01 went to Coolavanny Steve (8/11f) in 27.26 with a neck back to Shes One Eighty in second.


The Stayers open race at 7.51 was won in impressive style by Antigua Kestrel with a quick-away-made-all success in 39.22. There was never a moments doubt for those that took the 1/3 on offer from bookmakers.


Division one of the Betgoodwin Standard open race at 8.09 went to the Kevin Hutton-trained railer Start The Engine in 26.72. 

Sent off the as the 4/6 favourite, the May 2023 son of Ballymac Cashout made it nine wins from 10 runs over course and distance.

Division two went to Coppice Trophy (10/3) in 26.76 following a flying 3.92 sectional.




Monmore Saturday open report


A busy night of open race action from Monmore with the Ladbrokes 264 first up at 6.48. Aero Drama (5/1) caused a shock, beating odds on favourite Dashing Dude, who finished second at 4/9. The winning time was 15.57 for the Richie Taberner-trained runner.

Heat two at 7.22 went to plan for favourite backers with Newinn Souly winning in 15.48 to reward those that snapped up the 4/6 on offer.


Heat three at 8.13 went to Specific Role (9/2) in 15.35 with Madeadifference a length back in second. The forecast paid £19.06.


The Ladbrokes.com 480 Maiden final at 7.56 went to the well-drawn Da Mighty Man (8/11f) who produced a flying 4.30 sectional and went onto win by one and a half lengths in 28.32 from a strong finishing Inca Lewie in T1. Keep an eye on the Nathan Hunt-trained Lewie. He looks a nice prospect.


The Dunn’s Early Birthday Surprise – Pat 70, Saru 50 and Simon 50 open race at 8.31 went to Ballymac Blanco (4/1) in 28.17. The Maxine Locke-trained May 2023 son of Ballymac Vic trapped well and made all recording a five-length success.


The first of two Ladbrokes 480 opens at 8.47 went to Blu Bert (9/2) in 28.46 with Noduff Sahara in second at 11’s. The forecast paid £72.93, well done if you found that one. The second heat at 9.23 went to the odds-on favourite Zebedee Clausa (8/11f) in 28.48 with the Nathan Hunt-trained railer recording a half-length victory from Ardera Sam.


Next up were two opens over the six-bend 630-metre trip at Monmore. Heres Ringo (8/11f) took the first at 9.04 with a dominant display, winning by nearly four lengths in 37.86. Favourite backers went home happy with Flying Desire (4/7f) taking the final race on the card, making all in 37.85 for trainer John Lambe.



 

Perry Barr open report

Whisky Instyle took the Arena Racing Company Dash at 7.18 causing a shock winning at 20s with Headford Sonny finishing second at 10/3. Race favourite King Jackson finished fourth following a troubled passage.


The Arena Racing Company Maiden at 7.36 looked like an open event on paper, but Kilwest Freddie (3/1) ran out an impressive three-length winner in 28.65.


Narcos Pablo (4/1) led near the line to take the PGR On Sky Sports Racing open race at 7.53 in 28.92 by a neck with Over Thebarpaddy in second and Darley Panther back in third.


The ARC Maiden Stayers race at 8.11 saw a short head and a neck separate the front three with Longacres Curio (7/2) getting the victory in 40.67. Odds-on favourite Good Martini (4/6) led to near the line but finished second. Value Poppy from T2 was always there or thereabouts and third a neck behind the front pair.


The ARC Bitches open race at 8.28 looked like a match on paper between Chamberlain Kate in T2 and Union Rose in T4. Kate led off the second bend and kicked for home and this was all over bar the shouting for those that took the 6/5 on offer from bookmakers. Kate went onto to record a three and a quarter length victory in 28.28.


At 9.02 in the ARC Stayers Shortwood Cloud (7/4) ran out an impressive eight-length winner, clocking 40.14 over the six-bend 660-metre trip at the Midlands venue. Inspector finished second from T4 with Invergarry back in third from T6.

Pulleen Dasher (11/4) was another impressive winner on the night, recording an eight-length success in the ARC Standard open at 9.36, winning in 28.34.

 



Yarmouth and Central Park open report

Four opens took place at Yarmouth on Saturday evening. Ted On Fire (11/1) took the Click Competitions Puppy Trophy open at 7.21, making all in 28.07. Carrigoon Nell (5/2) was another to make all on the night, taking the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden open race at 7.55 in 27.96 from T4. 


The C & C Maiden Stayers at 8.29 saw the shock of the night with Drumdoit Bister (33/1) winning in 41. 14 with Gone At Last in second at 12s. The forecast paid £223.39, well done if you found that one. 


The final open race on the card took place at 9.07 with Who Dates Wins (5/1) taking the Yarmouth Saturday Standard by just over two lengths in 27.47.


Over at Central Park the ARC Maiden at 8.01 went to Dangerous Brian (15/8) in 29.77 with a half-length back to Bullseye Bill in second from T5. Division A of the ARC Bitches at 8.19 was won by race favourite Good Rainbow (6/5) in 29.50. Division B at 9.46 was won in impressive style by Tintreach Tiny (7/4) in 29.59. 


The Arc Novice Stayers Trophy at 8.36 saw Bling Bling Musk (6/1) beat Proper Dangeress by three and a quarter lengths in 40.51. Fastlane Hoffa (11/10) took the Jenningsbet Sprint Trophy at 8.54 with an emphatic four and a quarter length success in 16.30. 


Dave’s Last Hurrah Stakes open at 9.11 saw Bluejig Baron line up as the 4/11 favourite, and he got the job done with a one- and three-quarters length win in 29.36. Crossbar (5/1) took the ARC Maiden at 9.28, clocking 16.30 with odds-on favourite Sevenofdiamonds back in fifth.
