Towcester treble for Patrick Janssens

Slick Sentinel led the charge at Towcester once more for Patrick Janssens on Sunday afternoon. The Derby semi-finalist suffered a surprise reverse on his most recent visit but was quickly back to winning ways to add to his pair of December wins there. 30 of his 50 career races have come at the venue, winning 15 times.

Derby-winning owners, The There Tall Men Syndicate, have another nice type on their hands in Droopys Graph. A 28.06 winning debut at Cork would be enough to convince anyone that he is a potential star, winning at the second time of asking for Janssens, ducking under the 29-second barrier in the process. From a repeat mating that has thrown the likes of Droopys Kathleen and Droopys Flare, he quickly made up for being turned over at prohibitive odds on his UK debut.

Janssens's treble was kicked off by Not So Steady who showed by far the best early pace having not trapped as well as he can. Once in front, he was not going to be caught, with those who had turned behind him running on to pick up the frame places.

There was a sprint winner for Craig Morris in the form of Nightingale Crew. The pup made the semis of the National Sprint after a UK debut at Romford that blew clock watchers away. He went toe to toe with Born Racer on the run to the opening bend, and keeping that rival outside of him was able to kick away. Given the form that Carol Weatherall's dog has been showing at the track, it's a performance to rate highly.

There was also a six-bend open on the card which went to Heather Dimmock's Chasing Rachel. It was a clash of the pups as the winner is a March 24, seeing off Lawrence Tuffin's Fabulous Hana who is a May 24. We mentioned last week when the winner scored over 500m that her future lay over further and she got the first opportunity in the UK to show that.

Three doubles at Oxford

Angie Kibble, Kevin Hutton and Mike Burton all walked away with a double from Oxford yesterday from the seven open races on offer.

Eagles Respect returned to 650m for Kibble, holding off his litter brother Malcolm Bosh by half a length. This has been a very happy hunting ground for the winner so far in his career. Kibble's double was started with the old boy Eze picking up a sprint open. The July 21 whelp has been an exceptional performer for the kennel though the years, winning in open race company for the fourth year in a row.

Hutton picked up a quick fire double as Signet Bucko and Dunquin Simone landed back-to-back races. The pair are just April 24 whelps and both used the same away and gone tactics for success. The second named is very closely related to Rioja Oisin, so has plenty of family quality to live up to.

Outa The Clouds and Droopys Aladdin were also victorious in back-to-back contest for Burton's brace. The former won the KAB Puppy Collar at the track in early November, returning from a short break. The only prior Oxford experience for the latter had seen him exit the BetGoodwin Pall Mall at the opening stage last summer, far more successful in an easier contest.

The other open on the card went to Alright Twinkle for David Lewis. She picked up the lead at the third bend of a Ladies contest and had plenty in the tank to hold off the closers.

Four Invitational contests at Sheffield

Rose Draper won the sprint contest on Sunday's card with youngster Hoyland Lad. He is only a May 24, but already has a Doncaster sprint open win on his card when he was in training with Michelle Brown.

Two 500m contests went to Aurora Dawn for Gwyneth Rees and Romeo Force for Kelly Hodson. It was a first win since September for Aurora Dawn who has been producing plenty of seconds and thirds since that success. Romeo Force backed up a win from last week with a strong-running victory, timing his challenge well from the back of the pack to get his head in front where it mattered.

A staying race saw Wholovesye stick his head in front right on the post for Darren Fretwell. Richie Taberner's Aero Osprey had made all of the running but Fretwell's dog who will become a veteran next month appreciate the return to this distance for the first time since September.

Three at Star Pelaw for Heilbron

A busy night at Star Pelaw featured a treble for Tom Heilbron. Freedom Pro Am got the winners started, having to work a little bit harder than his starting price of 4/9 might have suggested but he was well on top by the line.

It was far more straightforward for Cannonball Queen who led up from the traps and never looked back to break her duck at the seventh time of asking. She is a half-sister to the very smart Irish sprinter Lennies Tank who made the semis of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup before having to be withdrawn.

The treble was rounded out by Links Ginola. His early pace meant that there was no need for him to dribble around his opposition to score, the June 24 puppy taking it up early and coming home a couple of lengths to the good.

Ted Soppitt went home with a pair of winners courtesy of Sunnyside Ted and Sunnyside Jayden. Both of them made most of the running, the first named picking up his fourth career win from only 10 starts while the latter was notching up a hat-tricks of successes and a 21st win from 46 career starts, a superb strike rate of more than 46%.

Adding his name to those with multiple winners on the card was Dean Blackbird. Loxleys Rex and Makeit Champion both turned over odds on shots to pick up their wins. They came over four and two bends respectively.

One of the most impressive winner on the night was Wanted Tibet for Frank Kearney. She had won a couple of races from four starts at Clonmel and made a very slick winning UK debut in a sprint contest. Her 14.65 on a track subsequently marked -10 was probably the performance of the night.

A pair of six-bend contests on the evening went to Fabulous Spell for Ronald Knights and Spy Master for David Wilkinson. The latter was one of two 16/1 winners on the night, the other came in a sprint in the form of Cash Maker for Colin Dibb.
