Special markets proving popular ahead of Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby

Plenty of interest in the Star Sports Derby Specials

The sponsors have seen a few market movers in their Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby special markets ahead of the Classic starting at Towcester on Thursday evening.

Interest away from the traditional markets has become increasingly popular in recent years and that has continued in 2025.

Trade has been especially brisk in the Trap Challenge, but punters have only had one number on their mind.

“The Trap Challenge has been all about the six dog,” said Star Sports representative Kaan Hughes.

“This has been due to the impressive array of wide runners at Towcester this season, and we are now 6/4 about the striped jacket.”

That’s not the only market to receive attention and, in particular, a couple of bitches have been well backed.

“We have also seen good action in the Top Bitch market,” added Hughes.

“Singalong Molly and Teddie have both been well supported, and they are now 9/1 and 8/1, respectively.

“We are now live with fastest sectional betting as well.” 

Slick Sentinel comes in for outright support

Hughes reports trade to be pleasing in the ante-post market, with Slick Sentinel their biggest loser.

The Patrick Janssens-trained wide seed has shown a liking for Towcester, winning the Genco Group Juvenile Classic last summer and finishing a close second in the Greyhound Racing UK Blue Riband final in January. Having opened at tripe-figure odds, he is now a 50/1 chance with Star Sports.

There has also been plenty of interest in Graham Holland duo Cheap Sandwiches and Bombay Pat in the outright betting. That pair may be behind their kennelmate Bockos Diamond the ante-post list, but they scored in style on their Towcester debuts last month and both have been supported into 10/1.
