Sunday action sees doubles up and down the country

There was open class action at four different tracks on Sunday, with arguably the pick of the action being at Sheffield, with Towcester, Star Pelaw and Valley also racing.

Fradgely doubles up at Owlerton

The sprint contest on the Sheffield card looked like a decent race on paper, and it was Rental Crisis who bounced back to winning ways for David Fradgely. He ran up a sequence of 13 wins in 17 starts back over the summer months last year but had only won once in his last seven. It was a messy contest but it could help his confidence.

Fradgely's double was kicked off by Tiermana Blaze in a 500m contest. He was not the quickest into stride but powered past his rivals down the back to dip under 29 seconds. He had turned much closer to the pace last week when he won, showing that he is capable of doing it both ways of late.

Very Elegant took out a strong six-bend race for Sean Davy, showing the best early gears to get herself to the front. She is a strong stayer and went further and further clear. She now has four wins and four seconds in her last eight starts.

There was plenty of promise from Romeo Talisker as he climbed the grades at Towcester for Lawrence Tuffin, and he scored on his debut for Sean Parker, coming from the back to time his challenge to perfection. A May 24 half-brother to Romeo Tomcat, he shapes like six bends is in his future.

Heather Dimmock got on the scoresheet in the final race on the card cortesy of Kates Dream. A top grade winner at Towcester last week, she produced a smart sectional to take an early lead and pulled out enough to hold off triple Category One semi-finalist Loxleys Forest by a neck.

The opens were rounded out with another 660m contest which was won by Neon Grace for Joy Andrews. She was another to show the best early pace to get the race won at an early stage. She only won twice in 13 starts when trained in Ireland, picking up her second win in the UK on just her fourth start.

Lock Up impresses at Towcester

Just three opens at Towcester on Sunday afternoon where Peter Harnden's Salacres Lock Up produced the run of the day. He has found others stronger off the final bend on his last two outings, but this was a weaker-looking contest and he had no problems justifying his odds-on status with a wide-margin success.

Swift Magnison was chinned on the line by King Memphis when they met a fortnight back but he reversed those places for Nick Deas. He has produced some outstanding sectionals, making it five wins in seven starts and his early gears will keep him competitive in decent company.

The other contest was over six bends where Lamorna Lexi grabbed the win for Alistair Scott. A smart exit from the traps set her on the way to victory and that proved to be crucial as the favourite Bombay Nutty found a little bit of trouble after a tardier beginning and he was never able to claw back the veteran.

Foot and Jackson doubles at Star Pelaw

Glenn Foot was one of two trainers to pick up more than one winner from the opens at Star Pelaw. Travel Safe was a decent winner over four bends, clocking a smart 25.59 in the process. She paced up well to the bend and that got her to the front able to hold off Tromora Meg who came home strongly.

Foot's other winner was more of a shock as Emilys Superstar was turned over at 1/5 by her kennelmate Wonderful Dolce. The winner is not a bad type herself by any means but the runner-up was 'Queen of the Track' in 2025 and it has to be a bit of a surprise that she was seen off.

Carl Jackson was the other to grab more than one winner, topping and tailing the opens. Noelles Glenlo got the winning underway over 590m, showing some greenness around the opening bends but getting herself on top late on. She has made a smart start to her career, winning for the fourth time in nine starts.

The final race of the night went to Crafty Regalo who blazed to a 5.44 split on his way to a comfortable four and three-quarter length success. He has some solid winning efforts to his credit around Sunderland, with this the first time that he has been seen in race action at Star Pelaw.

There was a very slick sprint win from Nah Then Keefill who clocked 14.41 for Daniel Bell. She is a superbly consistent bitch and this was a new quickest of the year, just 13 spots off the 2025 best.

Affane Fox was another who got the better of an odds-on favourite. She paced up best of all for Colin Watson, the drop to sprinting proving no issue for her as she backed up an A4 win from last time out. She is a March 24 whelp so her best days should still be in front of her.

The other open on the card went to Rab Galloway's Lockstep. As was the case for most on the card, she made all of the running, picking up her third win in her last four starts. A litter sister to Irish Derby Plate third Carrick Scholsey, she looks a nice type for Galloway to go to war with.

Danahar doubles up at Valley

James Danagher was the trainer to pick up a double at Valley, both over the four-bend trip. Quivers Rafa was the quicker of the pair. He showed the best early pace to get to the front early on, just pulling out enough of a lead to hold off the late charge of Burrows Magic.

Mustang Darvin brought up the double, also producing superior speed to the first bend than his rivals. It was a third straight win for the fawn son of Magical Bale.

A sprint contest on the card went to Donna Davy's Da Scallywag. He was fully expected to get the job done as the 1/3 market leader, pulling well clear with his kennelmate Hawkfield Tiktok, and winning for the fourth time in his last five starts.

The biggest surprise came from Craig Marston's Valid Signature who landed another two-bend contest, starting at 14/1. He had picked up a D4 at Monmore on his most recent outing.
