Sunday open report from Towcester and Star Pelaw 


Division one of the bet365 Empress trial stakes from Towcester at 1.57 went to the Mark Wallis kennel with Strike It Skye running out an impressive winner in 29.22. Leading at halfway, the January 2024 daughter of Ballymac Cashout took the race by two and a half lengths, rewarding those that snapped up the 4/11 on offer from bookmakers. Baronness Velvet from the Kevin Hutton kennel finished second. 


Division two of the bet365 Empress trial stakes at 2.52 went to the Laurance Tuffin-trained Fabulous Riki with a quick-away-made all success in 29.55 at 15/8 from T3. Swift Megan finished second, beaten three and a quarter lengths from T1 with Miss Direct in third from T5. 


Division one of the Towcester Standard at 3.29 saw Romeo Tomcat line up from T6 as the 8/13 favourite and there wasn’t a moments doubt for odds-on backers as the Patrick Janssens-trained June 2023 son of Dorotas Wild pinged the lids and make all to record a seven-length victory in 28.57. Antigua Kestrel grabbed second from T1 with Gun Slinger in third from T2.

Division two of the Towcester Standard at 4.44 also saw favourite backers collecting from No Better Feeling (T2) leading late on to take the race in 29.27 at 4/7. Killieford Goram finished second from T4 with Givemethemoney (T6) in third. 


Three divisions of the Towcester maiden took place on Sunday, August 31. At 4.26, the Laurance Tuffin-trained railer Romeo Force in 29.26 at 4/9. The lightly raced October 2023 son of Romeo Magico led at the first bend and went onto record a one-length victory with Our Big Bill grabbing second at 6s. Freeway Zac was third from T3 a further three lengths back. 


A little earlier in Division two of the Towcester Maiden at 2.33 also went to the Tuffin kennel with Fabulous Electra making all from T2 in 29.52 at 3s. In My Life took second from T1, four lengths behind the impressive winner with odds-on favourite Glengar Maggie in third from T3. 


Division one at 5.21 looked like a match race on paper between Slick Skylark (T2) and Venetian Mick (T4) and that’s exactly how the race went, with the Kevin Hutton-trained Venetian Mick taking the race by just over a length in 29.12 at 2s with Slick Skylark in second at 6/5.


The Towcester Sprint open at 3.49 saw the Mark Wallis-trained railer Kilmore Mohican make all at 10/3 in 15.87 with kennelmate and odds-on favourite Ballinakill Liam back in second at 4/6. Kilmore Mohican popped out from a rails draw and wasn’t for catching as he ran out an impressive winner. 


At 5.39 in the Towcester Stayers all eyes were on Fabulous Heka from the Janssens kennel as the February 2023 daughter of Romeo Magico looked to follow up her win in the Select Stayers at Nottingham were she beat Mongys Wild in impressive fashion. The bookmakers were taking no chances and went 30/100 at the off. Heka held the rails, turned handy behind Bank Of Granda, who led round and it was race on. At the fifth bend, Heka hit the front and powered clear and this was all over bar the shouting. Fabulous Heka went onto clock 43.24 with eight lengths back to Crafty Prospero (T3) in second. Romeo Aragon (T4) took third.

Star Pelaw open report


The Glenn Foot kennel recorded a double on the night with Moanteen Pudding and Emilys Superstar both winning in impressive fashion. Moanteen Pudding (T3) was sent off as the 5/6 favourite for the Star Pelaw Maiden Trophy open race at 6.11 over the four-bend 435-metre trip and odds-on backers never had a monents doubt as the December 2023 daughter of Grangeview Ten led round and skipped a couple clear of the chasing pack. Pudding went on to record 25.70 with Glengar Lisa (T2) staying on well to grab second.

It was a similar story with the other winner on the night for the Foot team, with Emily Superstar making all at 8.34 in 35.92 to land the Stayers Trophy over the six-bend 590 metre at 2/5. Fabulous Spell (T3) took second but couldn’t land a blow on the winner.

Cloondarone Lucy took the Maiden Sprint in 14.69 at 6.46, causing an upset, beating odds-on favourite Blackstone Dani, who took second at 1/2f. Lucy led round and made all to reward those that took the 14s on offer from bookmakers. Well done if you found that one. 


The Star Pelaw British Bred Trophy open race at 7.24 saw Nah Then Keefill make all from T4 in 25.97 with a length back to Marleypark Ken in second from T3 and a further three quarters of a length to Winter King in T5. The forecast paid £7.33 with the tricast paying £10.35. 


Next up was the Star Sports #Bettingpeople Standard Trophy open race at 7.58 and the bookmakers made the Glenn Foot-trained Barnfield Duke the odds-on 5/6 favourite from T4. At lid rise Duke trapped well and led round but Open Debate was on his tail and late on the Tom Heilbron-trained railer hit the front and took the race by half a length in 25.45 at 5/2. Barnfield Duke finished second from T4 with Toonrlee in third from T6.

Another odds-on favourite was beaten in the next race at 8.18, with Sharp Royd (T6) getting the better of Dreamin Porcha (T4) in the Star Sports #Bettingpeople Standard Trophy open race over the four-bend 435-metre trip at the North East venue Star Pelaw. Sharp Royd led round and made all in 25.59 at 6s with just over three lengths back to Porcha (4/5f) in second. Chippy Chase (T1) met trouble at the first and third bends and did well to grab third late on. 


The final open race on the card took place at 8.52, and it looked like a wide open affair with bookmakers going 9/4 the field. Laughil Rex took the race in 14.62 from T2 at 6s with Bitzer Maloney in second from T5 at 5/2. Race favourite Tassie Twirl challenged throughout but finished third at 9/4.
