Depot too Swift at Yarmouth

Swift Depot smashed the track record with a scintillating success in the heats of the Click Competitions 79th East Anglian Greyhound Derby at Yarmouth on Wednesday evening.

A finalist in the event 12 months ago, the John Mullins-trained dog rushed into an early lead out wide and drew further clear as the race went on to take seven spots off the previous record by clocking a brilliant 27.10 (+20).

It was one-two for the Mullins kennel as he came home seven lengths clear of Mr James, with Aayamza Dancer filling the final qualifying spot.

Janssens at the double

All six heats went to the favourite, including the opener when Romeo Steel initiated a double for Patrick Janssens by making all with ease.

The 4/11 shot reminded everyone why he was such a short-priced ante-post favourite as he showed his electric early speed to cut loose and maintained a furious march to cross the line four lengths clear of Brindle Bully.

There was a further five and three-quarter lengths back to Burrows Charm in third, as the winner stopped the clock at 27.26 (+20).

Janssens completed the double when Not So Steady justified 11/8 favouritism by making all in 27.39 (+20) in the third heat.

The September 2023 son of Ballymac Bolger produced a slick exit before pacing up into a big lead and extended the margin to beat Burrows Eclipse by five and a half lengths, with Razldazl Mary back in third.

Gutsy Tarquin prevails

Roy Peckham’s Tiffield Tarquin (11/10fav) posted a smart 27.24 (+20) when battling back to beat Kereight Fraud by four and three-quarters lengths in fine style, with a long way back to Harlequin Gambit in third.

Da Mighty Man (4/5fav) got on the scoresheet for John Lambe with a dominant trap-to-line success in 27.57 (+20) from Dick Turpin and Too Wright.

4/5 favourite Bockos Buster clocked 27.44 (+20) when beating Who Dares Wins by a length and three-quarters, with local hope Stratchrannoch picking up third place.
