50% kennel strike rate in one night for Galloway

Rab Galloway had a red letter day at Star Pelaw on Saturday when his runners grabbed gold in three of the nine open races at the north east venue - a feat described by racing manager Dave Gray as “some performance” given the size of the trainer’s kennel.

“Rab only has a team of six in training so to score with three of them on the same night is a brilliant effort and some performance,” said Gray.

Wins for the Galloway-trained Tickets King (14.71) in division two of the sprint, Keefill Darwin (36.62) in division two of the stayers, and Lockstep (14.78) in a maiden sprint were the highlight of nine opens at Pelaw on another busy weekend there.

And off the track, there have been plenty of changes - especially when it comes to trainers and racing office staff.

Gray revealed: “We’ve been delighted to welcome trainers Colin Dibb, from Harlow, and Sam Atkinson, from Dunstall Park. Both have settled in with their graded runners and had their first winners this weekend.

“Sam actually struck on Saturday landing a one-two in a D4 with Caseys Tip Off and Caseys Jake.

“Sam and Colin have been brought in to replace Jo Atkins who has switched to Kinsley.”

Gray also revealed a position for a deputy racing manager at Star Pelaw has become available.
