Thursday's Tips

*** Jacktavern Trump - 8.54 Newcastle

** Zenith Tanju - 8.19 Newcastle

* Grantstown Cross - 7.44 Newcastle

There is an English debut this evening for Glenn Foot's Jacktavern Trump and he can make it a successful one. He has shaped well enough in a couple of trials at this track over the sprint trip but the step up to 480m is going to suit him much better. He signed off in Ireland with some smart times at Shelbourne which would make him a well above average recruit to these shores.

Zenith Tanju has not been seen in action much in 2026 but he has won his last two starts, both in A1 grade. The most recent of those was a 28.55 success, stepping back in the right direction after clocking both a 28.27 and a 28.35 here last year. He is back up in class tonight but that should not be an issue for the 2025 Derby finalist.

There is a fascinating contest at 7.44 where Droopys Bookem looks like being sent off the market leader. He has not quite been at his best this year and three is not a good draw with a bit of early inside. Glengar Vegas has shown up well in Cat Two competitions but Grantstown Cross may be able to usurp both. He has been flying at Sheffield of late and his only race here saw him third to six-time Cat One finalist Unanimous Leon and Derby quarter-finalist Droopys Sort. He has the pace to lead these up.
