It's the opening round of the Arena Racing Company Northern Puppy Derby this evening, so we are heading to Newcastle for our three selections this evening.
Thursday's Tips
*** Soapy Suds - 8.19 Newcastle
** Ballymac Shontae - 7.11 Newcastle
* Newinn Aero - 6.53 Newcastle
There is no doubt that Soapy Suds is one of the leading contenders for outright glory here. She has already shown herself to be a very smart type by making the final of the bet365 English Puppy Oaks at Oxford, and has produced a couple of very smart trials around here. She showed her effectiveness on a galloping track of late at Doncaster and she should be very hard to beat.
Heat two is an interesting one with a cracking battle in prospect between two of Jimmy Fenwick's in Ballymac Service and Ballymac Shontae. Trap three Backtoyourbest looks set to head straight to the rails which is not going to be a help to Ballymac Service whereas Shontae is the sole wide with a vacant trap inside her, so should get a lovely run through the early part of the contest.
The opening round contest that Newinn Aero has found himself in looks to be a very winnable opportunity for him. There is only an A4 win at Romford to his credit so far in terms of victories but he produced a 28.76 trial off the back of a 4.51 split on his first 480m trial here, and anything further on that could see him mark himself down as an outside contender for overall glory.
