Banksie's Five to Follow- Friday 22nd August

Each week I’ll be looking to find Five Puppies who have caught the eye in graded greyhound action in the last week who could be worth following in the coming weeks.

Two winners from the five greyhounds that ran last week. Keady Touch made to two wins from two starts when running out a four and a quarter length winner of an A3 contest at Sheffield for trainer Paul Prior at 4/5F, while Scooby Diamond was also an odds on winner of an A5 contest at Monmore for Nathan Hunt, pinging the lids and making all the running by three lengths at 8/11F.

To follow any of my selections, or indeed greyhounds of your own choosing, then click here to receive notifications as to when they are running next.

Talking of selections, if you've ever wondered how my selections have got on after i have mentioned them, then take a look at the bottom of the page, where i've provided an update on each greyhound and how many wins they gained in their first 15 runs.

Moving on to this week:

CANI GETA HOYAHH : Ran from Trap 5 in the 3.01pm at Sheffield on Friday 15th August (Runs today in the 2.31pm at Swindon)

Dalton Smith’s March 24 youngster got off the mark in fine style in an A8 contest at Swindon last Friday afternoon

Having pinged the lids, Cani Geta Hoyahh showed cracking early pace into the opening bends, but squandered her length and a half lead by spinning off wide between the two opening bends, though was able to regain it again off the second bend.

Having hit the front, she was able to build up a lead of around three lengths heading into the third bend and was able to maintain that distance when crossing the line in front in a time of 29.08 (+20) at 9/4, improving three lengths on the clock from her trials.

That was a good run for a debut outing and is likely to have more to come from that run, especially if not spinning off so wide at the opening bends again, and if that’s the case, then she could go close to landing the double next time out

ALNWICK WRIGHTY: Ran from Trap 4 in the 12.01pm at Newcastle on Tuesday 19th August

Angela Harrison’s February 24 son of classy stayer Droopys Live trapped well and made all the running to make to two wins from his four starts in an A7 contest, improving three lengths on the clock from his best previous outing

Harrison’s greyhound blasted clear from the boxes and built up a length and a half lead going into the opening bends which was extended to four lengths down the back.

Alwick Wrighty never looked to be in any danger as he crossed the line in front two and three quarter lengths clear of his rivals in a time of 29.63 (-10) at 15/8F.

Having shown such early pace, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him following up next time out if able to repeat that break and could prove tough to reel In if that’s the case here

GOTTHECHAT: Ran from Trap 6 in the 5.31pm at Romford on Tuesday 19th August

The Dave Mullins trained greyhound Gotthechat is winless after two starts but this March 24 youngster showed that a win may not be far away on Tuesday evening.

Gotthechat showed a good burst of early pace when hitting the front on the run to the first bend, and exiting the second bend, she held a lead of two lengths.

That lead was maintained until the run for home when she was picked up in the final strides when looking as though she may just hang on for a first victory.

She improved three lengths on her previous best performance despite tasting defeat but that was a good run for an A7 contest and a similar performance in this grade next time out could see her going one place better.

BATHAMS BIG TOE: Ran from Trap 4 in the 11.01pAm at Monmore on Wednesday 20th August

Kim Billingham-Hine’s April 24 greyhound nearly took advantage of a drop in grade on Wednesday morning when finishing runner up

Having found plenty of trouble in an A6 contest on debut, Bathams Big Toe went close to going one place better despite a poor start from the traps, and heading into the opening bends, he sat in fourth, but after overcoming some minor trouble between the opening two bends, he was only a couple of lengths off the pace.

That lead was reduced to just over a length when rounding the third bend and it looked as though he could hit the front, but just as he was set to lead, he was just headed by another runner and ended up going down by a head at the finish.

That was just his second outing and if able to brush up on his trapping skills, he looks set to score in this grade in the coming weeks and could prove too strong in the later stages when doing so

VIOLET FREYA : Ran from Trap 4 in the 8.19pm at Romford on Wednesday 20th August

Maxine Locke’s April 24 debutant finished runner up in an A8 contest when looking to make it a winning debut on Wednesday night but showed that a first victory may arrive shortly

A good burst of early pace took Violet Freya to the front on the approach to the opening bends and coming out of the second bends, she held a lead of a length.

At the third bend though she came under pressure from the runner in trap six but she battled well and heading into the run for home, Locke’s greyhound held a narrow lead, but was just headed in the final strides.

That was a promising effort on debut and this greyhound has every chance of going one place better next time out if able to hit the front rounding the opening bends again
