Graham’s Sunday Tips- Timmy can Hunt down first success at Towcester
With the StarSports TRC English Derby kicking off on Thursday evening, Towcester hosts it’s final open race action before then with five opens on the 12-race card and there look to be a few runners with outstanding claims
TIMMYS HUNTER is winless after his four previous starts, but he looked to be unlucky in defeat last Sunday when finishing behind Maxine Locke’s winner Indian Bonnie. He led in the early stages before encountering trouble rounding the opening bends, dropping back as a result to finish fourth. He may ideally have wanted a draw further in, but with the slow starting Arthur Minute in trap 4 and Commanche in trap 3, he could find himself with a trouble-free run early and Patrick Curtin’s June 23 youngster could take all the beating in the 3.29 contest, running from trap 5.
The first of the opens takes place at 2.16 and the in-form trap 4 runner BROADWAY MURTY ought to take plenty of beating despite a tricky looking draw. Sean White’s runner has won three of his last four starts over course and distance in recent weeks and another of his usual fast starts can see him out and gone.
Local runners Champagne Zombie in Trap 1 and Skirk Cashout in trap 5 have both won a couple of top-grade sprints at short prices in recent weeks and Kilara Berb in trap 3 has been running well at Romford so Broadway Murty will need to be paw perfect at when the lids open in order to land the hat-trick.
Anyone who has read my Five To Follow column on Friday may be familiar with the name CRAFTY PROSPERO, who I mentioned after an impressive victory in A3 on April 30th over course and distance. He lines up in a Maiden contest from trap 4 at 4.07, but Michelle Brown’s August 23 youngster could well land a first open race victory here. He may need some luck in running in the early stages as he isn’t blessed with early pace but he will be doing his best running in the later stages, so if negotiating a clear run in the early stages, he could be in a position to reel in the leaders on the run for home.
Kevin Boon’s Farneys Wexford in trap 6 looks to be the most likely danger having found plenty of trouble in a couple of opens at Yarmouth in recent weeks but could lead in the early stages and could be the one that Crafty Prospero has to reel in.
Hove trainer Jamie Kingsley’s KEYLOGUES RUNNER has just one victory from his previous 10 starts, but he went close to adding a second last week in a Derby Trial Stake when picked up close home by the strong running, Patrick Janssens-trained Romeo Empire having led for most of the way.
Running from trap 3 here, Kingsley’s sole Derby entrant lines up against the well fancied Bombay Pat next Saturday, but faces nothing in the calibre of either runner in this field and if able to lead the inside runners round the opening bends, he could take all the beating, though the John Mullins trained Swift Depot, running from trap 5, can stay on late and may prove to be the main danger.
The trickiest race looks to be the Maiden Stayers contest over 712m at 2.52 where most of the runners involved have little to no form over this sort of distance, so stakes should be kept to a minimum, but the John Mullins trained AIRFORCE JACKPOT in trap 5 has been staying on well to finish runner up twice at Romford over 575m and has finished runner up over 659m at Yarmouth in recent weeks, so with this distance likely to suit, then she could prove too strong at the finish here.
