Joe Conneely goes through all the action at Nottingham this evening and bring you his best selections

Nottingham The PGR St Leger and Arc Birmingham Cup have reached the semi-final stage at Nottingham this evening with two of each on the card as well two heats of a sprint competition and two heats of a 500m standard competition.

The first open race of the evening is the first heat of the Arc Standard Trophy at 7.44pm where Hopes Ompaloompa can get the better of Loxleys Forest and No Better Feeling.

Heat two at 8.01pm sees a huge drop in class for Racketball Brute from trap three. The 500m is the perfect trip for him and this is the ideal opportunity for him to get back to winning ways.

At 8.19pm we have the first semi-final of the Arc Birmingham Cup in what looks an extremely competitive affair. I am with Droopys Suprstar in trap two who can take advantage of the early pacers Cunnigar Yousir, Unanimous Leon and Zebadee Clausa all needing to lead where something has to give. Droopys Suprstar should get first run on Chelms Bear in trap four so if he can turn close enough to the pacesetters he can pick up the pieces in the latter stages of the race.

The second semi-final at 8.36pm looks a more straightforward assignment for trap four Droopys Aladdin albeit he does have to overcome a tricky draw again. However he shown his capabilities last week from the same box when demolishing his rivals so a level break again should see Droopys Aladdin dominate from start to finish.

The PGR St Leger first semi-finals is at 8.54pm and thrown up a corker. Fabulous Heka lowered the colours of Mongys Wild in the Select Stayers back on August 25 and they meet again from traps two and four respectively. Throw in the mix Droopys Flare from trap three who was only beat three parts of a length by Mongys Wild last week having her first start back since March this is set to be a belter where I am with Mongys Wild. He can take advantage Droopys Flotilla being a goalkeeper to the likes of Fabulous Heka and Droopys Flare so if Mongys Wild can weave his way through unscathed he can prove too strong in what is a brilliant semi-final.

The second semi-final at 9.11pm should see trap five Vhagar lead and make all. She was beat by Fabulous Heka in round one but faced an easier task this week with Garfiney Blaze expected to come on for last weeks but has time to find with Vhagar and Deadly Disco in trap six who ran a flat race in defeat seven days ago so as long as Vhagar can come away running, she can put the race to bed at an early stage.

Finally we have two heats of the Arena Racing Company Sprint competition where trap six Ballinakill Liam takes all the beating in heat one at 9.28pm and trap four Mystical Cali for Simon Deakin will look to improve on the impressive 17.94 trial over C&D to take heat two at 9.46pm.
