Saturday's Tips - 9 August 2025
Saturday night at Monmore sees the start of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic and Ladbrokes Gold Cup.

Two Category One Competitions start at Monmore tonight
***6.31 Monmore - Droopys Invent 6/4 (2pts)
**8.31 Monmore - Droopys Trade 4/6 (2pts)
*9.39 Momore – Brindle Bully 1/1 (1pt)
It’s top-class action all the way Monmore this evening with two Category One competitions kicking off with six heats apiece.
First up is the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic over 630m and punters can get off to a flyer by siding with Droopys Invent in the opener at 6.31. Having won his heat, Seamus Cahill’s dog was only a short-head away from making the PGR Puppy Derby final here in March, so clearly likes the track and should relish a return to the Wolverhampton circuit. He performed with plenty of credit in the PGR Regency at Hove recently, finishing third behind the brilliant Mongys Wild in last Saturday’s final despite the 695m stretching his stamina. This easier six-bend trip should be much more to his liking and, with not too much early speed among his rivals, he can steal a march with plum draw on the rails.
It's a very competitive event and the remainder of the heats look very tough, so we head to the Ladbrokes Gold Cup over 480m for our next bet and it’s hard to oppose Droopys Trade, who should have too much class for his rivals in heat two at 8.31. Third in the Bresbet Gymcrack at Sheffield in April, he then won in the opening three rounds of the Derby at Towcester before a bumpy ride in the quarter-finals saw him exit the Classic. The Patrick Janssens-trained dog was narrowly beaten on his return here last week but lost a lot of ground when having to check at the first bend and he will have needed that first run in nearly two months. Expected to strip much fitter tonight, he goes in possibly the weakest heat and should turn prominently, before putting the race to bed down the far side.
Brindle Bully is in sparkling form at present and he looks worth the wait in the evening’s finale at 9.39. Dave Mullins’ dog will need to be on his toes with Jacktavern Chief on his inside, but he looks capable of getting first run based on recent evidence. The in-form wide seed arrives on the back of two flying victories over 400m at Romford, clocking smart times of 23.64 and 23.53 in the process, and he posted a rapid 4.28 sectional in a pleasing 28.05 workout at Monmore last weekend. That early speed can see him lead up in stripes and really stretch them out.
