Saturdays tips August 16

Saturday sees the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers and the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore as well as the £3000 to the winner BGBF British Bred Oaks Final at Oxford at 8.26pm.

Kevin Hutton trains five of the six runners in the big race at Oxford with Dalton Smith the only other trainer in the race who trains Ivys Showgirl in trap one who used to be trained by Kevin Hutton. Signet Nayla will take all the beating if she can reproduce her semi-final effort. She clocked 26.43 off a 3.89 sectional seven days ago so a repeat of that run from the same trap should see Signet Nayla go onto score.

At Monmore we start with the three semi-finals of the Summer Stayers.

Semi-Final one at 7.06pm looks a bit of a match between Gary The Arb in trap one and New Destiny in trap two. Deadly Disco in trap six saves his best for this track but I am with Gary The Arb in trap one. The inside draw is a massive advantage over the 630m trip and with that Gary The Arb can hold New Destiny off to lead and win with the latter chasing him home in second.

The second semi-final at 7.22pm has also given another trap one runner a brilliant make up in Romeo Empire. He stayed on extremely well behind New Destiny last week and can use the inside draw to take this second heat with Clona Ice qualifying in second. Antigua Kestrel needs to lead to give himself the best chance, however is is struggling to get home over this trip so I would be against him with Romeo Empire and Clona Ice.

The third semi-final is all about Vhagar in trap three. She has two dogs on her inside that she should clear in Swift Jarvis and Amazing Zeus so if she gets around the first two bends unscathed, she wins this comfortably with Bombay Nutty giving Mark Wallis a one-two in the third semi-final. Singalong Molly will come on for last weeks run and if leading Bombay Nutty would be a big player to qualify.

Semi-final one of the Gold Cup at 7.56pm has given Union Rebel a favourable draw in trap five with Droopys Aladdin in four. However Droopys Aladdin has matured over the last few months showing he can be more successful from wider draws than trap one and with that I am going to be with him to take a flyer from the middle box to clear the inside trio. If he manages to do that he can go onto beat Union Rebel who on the draw looks set to go well.

The second semi-final at 8.13pm is all about Jacktavern Chief for me. He is turning into a real nice type for Glen Foot who was ultra impressive when winning his first round last week coming from off the pace. His trapping is his Achilles heel, however if he gets it right from the boxes he is going to be extremely difficult to beat and with that I am with him to take the second semi-final ahead of Brindle Bully who was behind the selection last week.

The third and final semi-final at 8.31pm is a real competitive affair. Gingers Prince in trap one is well drawn to go well as he should get first run on Aero Pepinillo in two. Fair Warrior winner Born Racer possesses fine early speed when trapping and he can set the race up for Gingers Prince to reel him in with Armagh Daithi catching Born Racer for second to qualify for next weeks big final.
