Sunday tips

The pick of Sunday’s action comes at Towcester, where eight open races feature this afternoon.

Gun Slinger made the most of a drop back in class when winning here last week and he can follow up in division one of the Towcester Standard at 2.16. Having fluffed the start in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore, Michelle Brown’s charge was able to turn much more prominently back over this C&D last Sunday and he stayed on strongly to beat the reopposing Newinn Sharky in good style. He has a better start in his locker, as evidenced by his 4.14 sectional when making all here earlier in the month, and he can produce a better exit now moved off the fence.

Division three of the Towcester Standard (4.07) could go the way of Heres Ringo (T3), who was an impressive winner over 630m at Monmore two starts ago, The Glenn Hockings-trained dog was out of luck in the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic there last time out but moved well in a 462m trial at Yarmouth earlier in the week and he contested the Derby here in the summer. He has a lot less on his plate today and, with a slow starter inside to smooth his passage to the corner, he can turn handy before proving too strong at the finish.

There is one open at Sheffield and it is Distant Fox (T1) who is fancied to land the Owlerton Stadium Stayers over 660m at 3.47. Rose Draper’s dog has been running well in A2 company but has some good form over this C&D, including an impressive 39.61 success when making all on his last try over six bends here in May. Armed with a plum draw on the rails, he can turn in front again and should prove tough to reel in.
